Recently, we saw unveiling of 2025 Yamaha R9 which belongs to Yamaha’s new generation of sport bikes. this bike is produced on CP3 platform which we already seen in MT-09, XSR900, and Tracer 9, but Yamaha made this bike more capable supersport.
Engine & Performance
2025 Yamaha R9 is powered by 890cc CP3 inline triple with producing 117 horsepower at 10,000 RPM and 93 Nm of torque. this engine setup continue to offer rider a perfect blend of usable torque and thrilling rev range.
This engine is same that we see in MT-09, it is well known for it’s responsiveness and distinctive triple-cylinder soundtrack.
- 0-60 mph: ~3.1 seconds
- 0-100 km/h: ~3.3 seconds
- Estimated Fuel Economy: ~45 mpg (US) / 19 km/l
New Chassis for More Fun
Yamaha has built bespoke aluminum Deltabox frame especially for the 2025 Yamaha R9 it is the lightest supersport frame they’ve ever built. Brembo Stylema calipers handles it’s braking plus its suspensions are fully adjustable KYB units which gives overall excellent control in all terrains.
Tech Features
I must say Yamaha R9 is fully loaded with tech features. it has got 6-axis IMU, enabling cornering ABS, traction control, slide control, wheelie control, and multiple ride modes. Also standard are:
- Up/Down quickshifter
- Cruise control
- Full-color 5-inch TFT dash
- Multiple customization options
Yamaha has also added wind tunnel winglets and front spoiler for aerodynamics. as per Yamaha, these changes reduces front lift by 6–7% in a straight line and up to 10% through corners.
Riding Position Review
It’s designed for street ride and that’s why we get lowered seat height of 830 mm from R6’s 850 mm. this makes 2025 Yamaha R9 more suitable for everyday drivers also it does not feel wrist-heavy as older supersports.
I have driven Ducati Panigale V2 which has more higher bars with more upright triangle but let me tell you R9 is a touch more aggressive and offer daily comfort.
Pricing and Value
2025 Yamaha R9 is priced at £12,254 (approx. $15,500 USD), about £2,000 more than the MT-09 but i think it is justified with added tech, fairing & new chassis. In comparison:
- Ducati Panigale V2: ~£15,000 ($18,000 USD)
- Panigale V2 S (Ohlins): ~£17,000 ($20,500 USD)
- KTM RC 990: Delayed indefinitely
